The midfielder’s contract includes a release clause of 60 million euros
Midfielder Real Sociedad Martin Zubimendi refused to move to Liverpool.
The Reds were ready to pay the player’s release clause, which was written into the contract – 60 million euros. However, Zubimendi decided to stay with Sociedad.
The midfielder also expressed a desire to extend his contract with the Blue-Whites. However, the terms of the upcoming deal will be worse than those that Liverpool offered Martin.
Zubimendi is a San Sebastian native who has spent his entire career at Real Sociedad. Having made his debut for the first team in 2019, Martin has played 188 matches for Tchouri-Urdín in all competitions, scoring eight goals and providing seven assists.
As part of the Spanish national team, Zubimendi became European champion this summer. At Euro 2024 in Germany, he appeared on the field four times, including playing the entire second half in the final against England (2:1).
Real Sociedad finished sixth in La Liga in the 2023/24 season. Liverpool finished third in the Premier League, losing the title race to Manchester City and Arsenal.
