Bronze medalist of the European Championship in the 4×100 meter relay Kristina Makarenko announced that she would not participate in the upcoming Russian Athletics Championships due to a relapse of her Achilles tendon injury.
The Russian Championship will be held from August 14 to 19 in Yekaterinburg.
— The Russian Championship will start soon, which unfortunately you will not see me at. A week ago I suffered a recurrence of my Achilles tendon injury. On Monday I did a quick job and on Thursday I woke up, started to get out of bed and from the first step I felt a pain that I had never felt before. In a word, I could not walk (and I still can not) because I was in so much pain. This week I tried to do everything to try to get back on track, but a week for Achilles is like a drop in the ocean. All my preparation and the whole season went by without any indication that he was suffering or at risk of getting sick.
“Of course, I could have tried to run with painkillers, but yesterday I had an MRI that showed very serious inflammation and microdamage. After analyzing all the pros and cons, I decided that I do not want to end up with a torn Achilles at the end of the season,” Makarenko wrote on the Telegram channel.
In June, Makarenko won gold in the 100 meters at the BRICS Games in Kazan.
