Guberniev republished a post by 1976 Olympic diving champion and famous Russian journalist Elena Vaitsekhovskaya. Vaitsekhovskaya criticized in her post the statements of singer and composer Yuri Loza, who expressed doubts about athletes performing under a neutral flag.
Vaitsekhovskaya wrote:
“Reminder: athletes like Alexander Popov, Alexander Karelin, Alina Zagitova, Alexander Bolshunov, Masha Lasitskene, Zhenya Rylov, our gymnasts and synchronized swimmers – they all performed under a neutral flag. Please, do not interfere with everything you do not understand and stop talking too much. Overly talkative MPs should also shut up. I apologize if I offended anyone.”
In response to this, Guberniev added on his own: “Exactly true! And a certain Elena Vyalbe performed beautifully without a flag and anthem in 1992 and was completely silent.”
Let us recall that at the 1992 Albertville Olympic Games, Vyalbe won a gold medal (in the 4×5 km relay) and four bronze medals (in the 5 km classic, 10 km pursuit, 15 km classic and 30 km distances).
Last week, Vyalbe spoke out about Russian athletes competing in the 2024 Olympics, saying that athletes competing under a neutral flag should not be going to the Olympics in the first place.
- Guberniev spoke about admitting Russians to the Paris Paralympic Games
