Athletistic / Doping. Members of the US Congress have called on the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) to conduct a thorough investigation into the doping scandal involving 23 Chinese swimmers, the press service of the United States Anti-Doping Agency (USADA) reported.
“We understand that USADA and many U.S. athletes have expressed distrust in WADA’s procedures. We are all committed to transparency.” USADA chief Travis Tygart pointed to inconsistent application of WADA rules, particularly with regard to teams from China and Russia.
“We demand that WADA provide a detailed report on its investigation into Chinese swimmers, including an explanation of why its findings were kept secret. We also demand that WADA conduct a thorough and independent investigation in which all reviews and investigations are conducted by independent third parties. But most importantly, WADA must review and reform its processes to ensure a level playing field for all athletes,” the US Congress said in a statement.
Earlier, WADA had highlighted the ineffectiveness of the United States Anti-Doping Agency (USADA). WADA documents show that now 90% of American athletes are not subject to the World Anti-Doping Code, and of the remaining 10%, one third are not subject to regular mandatory testing.
It is worth noting that Witold Banka was invited to the US Congress to attend a hearing on anti-doping ahead of the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris (France), but he declined to attend the event.
