Bogachuk: There was no rematch clause in the contract for the fight with Ortiz, but we will most likely seek it

The Ukrainian lost the fight to Vergil Ortiz by majority decision

Ukrainian boxer in the first middleweight Sergey Bogachuk (24-2, 23 KO) shared his thoughts regarding fight against the WBO International and WBC Interim Light Middleweight Champion Virgil Ortiz (22-0, 21 KO).

“I’m happy with the fight with Ortiz. I think I did a great job, no matter what anyone says. The hardest thing about Ortiz was that he kept going head first and also trying to push me. When the result was announced, I felt like I had won the fight. After the announcement, many people in the hall supported me. These were people who understand boxing and understood what happened.”

“There was no rematch clause in the contract for the fight with Ortiz, but most likely we will seek it. My promoter Tom Loeffler keeps telling me I won this fight. He and my team are confident in my victory.”

In the first and eighth rounds, Bogachuk knocked his opponent down, but after all 12 rounds, the judges were adamant in their decision.

One of the referees scored the fight a draw (113:113) in his scorecards, while the other two gave a minimal advantage to Vergil Ortiz (114:112, 114:112).

Thus, Ortiz continued his unbeaten march in the professional ring, but for the first time he finished the fight without a technical knockout of his opponent.

Now Vergil Ortiz has taken over the WBC interim light middleweight title, which was previously held by Sergey Bogachuk.
