Athletistic/MOK. Olympic high jump champion Maria Lasitskene has said Sebastian Coe, president of the International Association of Athletics Federations (World Athletics), is not a suitable candidate for the post of president of the International Olympic Committee (IOC).

Earlier it was announced that Thomas Bach would step down as IOC President. In response, Coe announced his intention to run as a candidate in the upcoming elections.

“I don’t think Sebastian Coe is the right person for this role. If you are the head of World Athletics, your responsibility is to look after the athletes of the world, and not to ignore and only make athletes from certain countries responsible.

“My meeting with Coe was not personal: it was a general meeting at the World Athletics headquarters in Monaco in the spring of 2020. From that conversation, it was impossible to understand what kind of person he was. But as a leader, we have all known him for nine years,” Lasitskene said, as quoted by TASS.
