Latvian NOC did not issue ultimatum to gymnast Polstyana to renounce Russian citizenship – media

The National Olympic Committee (NOC) of Latvia did not issue an ultimatum to the gymnast Elisabeth Polstiana renounce Russian citizenship. This was reported by the TV3 channel in reference at the LETA agency.

According to the source, the NOC has asked the Latvian Gymnastics Federation to clarify Polstyanaya’s plans regarding her status as a Russian citizen.

Latvian athletes who also have Russian or Belarusian nationality are not eligible to receive state financial assistance, but are not deprived of the right to compete for Latvia in international competitions.

Earlier, the athlete said that she was not allowed to participate in the Rhythmic Gymnastics World Championships in Bulgaria. Polstyanaya was born in Latvia, but grew up in Russia. She obtained Latvian citizenship in 2018 and has since represented the country in international competitions.
