The world number one believes that players should get more rest during the season
World No. 1 Iga Shventek criticized the excessive number of tournaments during the season. According to the Polish tennis player, the players deserve more rest.
“Obviously it’s not our decision, but I’m sure we have too many tournaments during the season. It makes tennis less interesting for us. Of course, I love playing in all these places, but it’s quite tiring.”
“I don’t think it should be like that because we deserve to rest a little more. People will probably hate me for saying this.”
This season, Šwiętek won Roland Garros 2024 and also triumphed at tournaments in Doha, Indian Wells, Madrid and Rome.
At the 2024 Olympic Games, Iga won a bronze medal. In the semi-finals, she lost to future Olympic champion Zheng Qinwen from China.
Iga is currently playing in a tournament in Cincinnati, where she has successfully made it to the semifinals, where she will face the “neutral” Aryna Sabalenka. This meeting will take place today, starting no earlier than 18:00 Kyiv time.
