Former head coach of the Russian women’s water polo team Sergei Frolov has died at the age of 66, the press service of the Russian Water Polo Federation reports.
The cause of Frolov’s death has not been announced; the funeral will take place on Wednesday.
“The Federation expresses its condolences to the family and friends of Sergei Frolov; this is an irreparable loss for the entire water polo world,” the message said.
Frolov led the Russian women’s national team from 1992 to 1995 and from 1997 to 2000. Under his leadership, the team became World Cup silver medalists (1997), silver medalists (1993 and 1997), bronze medalists (1999) of the European Championships and bronze medalists at the 2000 Olympic Games.
