Snigur, Starodubtseva, Zavatskaya and Soboleva will try to get into the main draw of the major through the qualifying sieve
Four Ukrainian tennis playerswho are not in the top 100 of the WTA rankings, learned their opponents in the first round US Open 2024 Qualifiers.
Daria Snigur (No. 127 in the world ranking) will face Valeria Savinykh (239) in the quarterfinals of the American major qualification. If successful, Daria will then face the winner of the duel between Akasha Urobo (USA) and Priscilla Hon (Australia).
Yulia Starodubtseva (147) will face 19-year-old Andorran Victoria Jimenez-Kasintseva (190). Further down the bracket, Yulia may meet Olga Golubovic (Serbia) or Gao Xinyu (China).
Katerina Zavatskaya (171) will face off against Japanese Ena Shibahara (235), and her next possible opponent could be Rebeca Masova (Spain) or Britain’s Francesca Jones.
Finally, Anastasia Soboleva (216) will have a fight against the Swede Miriam Bjorklund (653). The Ukrainian’s next possible opponent is the strongest in the pair Elizabeth Mandlik (USA) – Sarah Bejlek (Czech Republic).
US Open 2024 will be held from August 26 to September 8. Six Ukrainian tennis players are guaranteed to play in the tournament’s main draw: Marta Kostyuk, Elina Svitolina, Dayana Yastremska, Angelina Kalinina, Lesia Tsurenko and Kateryna Baindl (the latter is on a “protected ranking”).
