The Italian indirectly admitted that he may have been wrong not to field the Ukrainian against Manchester City
Head coach Chelsea Enzo Maresca commented on his official debut at the helm of the London club. In particular, the coach mentioned the Ukrainian winger Mikhail Mudrik in the context of rotation for the 1st round match EPL against Manchester City (0:2).
“Until the transfer window closes, we can sell players and we can buy. When it closes, everything will be much better, not just for me, but for all the managers in the world.”
“It was difficult to choose the starting 11. The reason is that we probably had players on the bench who deserved to start, like Misha [Мудрик] and some other players. But sometimes you have to make decisions,” the Italian specialist admitted.
Let us recall that in his opening match at the helm of the Blues, Maresca lost to the English champion in London. Erling Haaland scored a quick goal, then Chelsea missed several chances, but the visitors played no worse, and in the end they finished off their opponents – Mateo Kovacic signed in the goal of his former club.
Mudrik sat on the bench for the entire game. Christopher Nkunku took his position (on the left in attack) from the first minutes, and from the 58th minute the most expensive summer newcomer, Pedro Neto, played there.
In the second round, Maresca’s team will travel to Wolverhampton. This will happen next Sunday, August 25.
