The International Skating Union expressed its condolences on Piseev’s death.

The International Figure Skating Union (ISU) has expressed its condolences following the death of former President of the Russian Figure Skating Federation (FFKKR) Valentin Piseev.

On Monday, ISU Honorary Vice President Alexander Lakernik told that Piseev had died at the age of 83.

— The ISU learned with regret and sadness of the passing of Valentin Piseev, former President and CEO of the Russian Figure Skating Federation, member of the Russian Olympic Committee and recipient of the Georg Häsler Medal. In paying tribute to Valentin, we acknowledge his unwavering dedication and commitment to figure skating throughout his career as a skater, coach, judge and director. The ISU will remember him with love,” reads a letter posted on the ISU website.

The condolence letter was signed by ISU President Kim Jae-yeol and CEO Colin Smith.

Piseev was elected president of the Soviet Figure Skating Federation in 1989, and after its dissolution he headed the Russian Figure Skating Federation. In 2010, after amending the organization’s charter, Piseev was elected its general director, which he held until 2014.

Previously, the official was a member of the executive committee of the Russian Olympic Committee and held the title of Honored Coach of the USSR. He worked as a judge at the European Championships, World Championships and Olympic Games (1972, 1976) and was elected to the ISU Technical Committee. Piseev was awarded the Order of Alexander Nevsky, the Order of Honor and the Silver Order of the International Olympic Committee.
