The Moscow City Court has rejected German journalist Hajo Seppelt’s appeal against the decision of the Nikulinsky District Court of Moscow in the trial of former Russian figure skating team doctor Philip Shvetsky, a correspondent reports on the scene.
Shvetsky was in the courtroom Wednesday. Seppelt was represented by associate attorney Thomas Olson.
The basis of the lawsuit against Seppelt was the journalist’s film about the doping case of Russian figure skater Kamila Valieva, which spoke about Shvetsky’s possible involvement in doping the athlete’s body. Seppelt also claimed that the doctor was involved in the scandal of disqualifying six Russian rowers before the 2008 Olympics in Beijing. The claim was registered on July 26, 2023.
In January, the Nikulinsky District Court of Moscow upheld Shvetsky’s complaint against Seppelt for the protection of honor, dignity and business reputation. The court ordered Seppelt to officially refute the information he had previously disseminated about Shvetsky. The journalist filed an appeal on February 29.
