Russian track and field athlete Elvira Khasanova told that she was extremely motivated, despite being excluded from international competitions.
On August 15, Khasanova set a Russian record (40 minutes 59.93 seconds) in race walking over a distance of 10,000 meters at the Russian Athletics Championships in Yekaterinburg. Khasanova surpassed the world record in this discipline, set in July 1990 by Soviet athlete Nadezhda Ryashkina – 41:56.23. At the moment, this distance is not included in the program of the Olympic Games and World Championships.
– How did you do that?
— We are fully motivated, even though we are not allowed to participate in international competitions. It is now the Olympic season, I want to show good results so that people abroad know that they are not letting us in in vain. We are also training here and showing decent results.
— Did you follow what was happening at the Paris Olympics?
– Yes, of course. I watched all sports, including walking. It was motivating because the Chinese woman won with a very good time. I think, why not take this into account, walk even faster in Yekaterinburg and set a Russian record, which will also surpass the world record.
— Are you subject to doping control?
– Yes, of course. Anti-doping officers come during competition and out-of-competition periods, RUSADA and international control. We take tests regularly, it’s no problem.
— How surprising is your result?
“Honestly, I did not expect such fast seconds from myself. I thought it would be much quieter. I set a good bar for myself. I think it will last a long time. Maybe we can fight even faster and harder, so that later the boys will start to envy us,” Khasanova said on the “Loud” show of the channel.
Russian track and field athletes are currently suspended from international competitions.
