Barcelona ready to let German midfielder go for free
Midfielder’s agent Barcelona Ilkay Gundogan is in England where he is working on a deal to bring the player back to Manchester City.
Barcelona are ready to let the 34-year-old German midfielder go for free. Earlier, City coach Pep Guardiola approved Gundogan’s return to his team.
Earlier, the midfielder asked Barcelona management to leave. The player also contacted the Citizens about a potential return. It was reported that the management of both clubs reacted positively to a possible deal. Gundogan himself also has offers from clubs in Saudi Arabia and Qatar.
Gundogan moved to Barcelona in the summer of 2023, signing a two-year contract (with the option to extend it for another season). The 34-year-old midfielder immediately became a key player for the Catalans, playing 51 matches in all competitions last season, recording 5 goals and 14 assists. Before that, Ilkay played for Manchester City for seven years, winning five English Championship titles and the Champions League.
Manchester City beat Chelsea 2-0 in the first round of the 2024/25 Premier League. Guardiola’s team will host Ipswich in their next match on August 24.
