Athletistic/Others. Russian State Duma deputy Sergei Obukhov spoke in an interview with SE about the development of national sports in the context of exclusion from international competitions.

“The USSR and Russia have always been and remain great sports powers. Although exclusion from international competitions greatly complicates the development of this sport, our experience shows that it does not hinder success. Remember how, after a long break at the Helsinki Olympics, our country achieved phenomenal results. The main challenge now is to support children’s sports and create unions for organizing international events. If we have sports allies, they will gladly come to us,” Obukhov noted.

At the 2024 Paris Olympics, the Russians competed under a neutral flag. The Russian national team has one medal – silver in doubles, won by tennis players Mirra Andreeva and Diana Schneider.
