Shovkovsky: We need to stand firmly on our feet, and for the rest we will rely on the football god

Dynamo coach talks about the support of fans in Lublin, the weather factor and Salzburg’s strengths

Head coach Dynamo Alexander Shovkovskiy shared his opinion about the upcoming match (nominally home for his team) against Salzburg in the playoff round of qualification Champions League.

“Of course, when you are not playing at your home stadium, the NSC Olimpiyskiy in Kyiv, which can hold 70,000 fans, everything is different. But we thank Lublin for responding and giving us the opportunity to hold our home games here, and also for supporting us and doing everything possible to make us feel at home here. This is worth a lot in terms of emotions and feelings. There were fewer people at the match with Partizan, more came to the game with Rangers, and we hope that tomorrow even more of our supporters will gather in the stands to support us in the match with RB Salzburg. We are very grateful to them, this is important to us. We play football for the fans, to give joy to people, and for our part we will do everything possible to please our people with a bright game and, of course, the result.”

“Goals from set pieces? This is one of the chances that can happen, but the game consists of many factors, including the organization of actions both in defense and in attack, as well as in transition phases. The team is preparing, we have studied the opponent and are ready to go out on the football field tomorrow.”

“We prepare for the game knowing what kind of opponent we will be facing, taking into account their strengths and trying to find their weaknesses. Weather conditions are a factor that does not depend on us. We need to stand firmly on our feet, and for the rest we will rely on the football god.”

“The opposing team is young, ambitious, plays fast football, tries to dictate their terms on the football field. Of course, we need to expect an aggravation from their entire attacking link and be careful when organizing our game in defense. As for singling out any of the players, I have never done this and will not do so now. I will only say that, except for the last season, RB Salzburg has constantly won the championship and participated in the Champions League. This speaks of a fairly high, good level of the team.”

The first game between Dynamo and Salzburg will take place in Lublin, Poland, at the Lublin Arena tomorrow, August 21. The kick-off is at 22:00 Kyiv time. The match will be officiated by a team of referees headed by Sandro Scherer.

Let us recall that on the way to this stage, Shovkovskiy’s team beat Serbian Partizan (6:2, 3:0) and Scottish Rangers (1:1, 2:0). Salzburg in the third round of qualification was stronger than Dutch Twente (2:1, 3:3).

The return match is scheduled for the Red Bull Arena in Salzburg on August 27 (22:00 Kyiv time).
