Zavatskaya Loses to Shibahara in US Open Qualifying

The Ukrainian and Japanese spent almost two hours on the court

Ukrainian Katarina Zavatskaya finished performing at US Open 2024.

In the first round of qualification, Zavatskaya lost to the representative of Japan Ena Shibahara in three sets. The match lasted one hour and 52 minutes.

The Ukrainian was unable to make a single ace during the match. Katarina gave up the first set without a chance (0:6), took revenge in the second (6:2), but in the decisive set Zavatska lost three of “her” games – 4:6.

Darya Snigur and Yulia Starodubtseva made it to the second round of the US Open qualification. Anastasia Soboleva also lost at the start of the qualification.

Six Ukrainian tennis players are guaranteed to play in the main draw of the tournament: Marta Kostyuk, Elina Svitolina, Dayana Yastremska, Angelina Kalinina, Lesia Tsurenko and Kateryna Baindl (the latter – according to the “protected rating”).
