Athletistic/MOK. Alexander Kozhevnikov, a two-time Olympic hockey champion, said in an interview with RIA Novosti that if Polish President Andrzej Duda were to head the International Olympic Committee (IOC), Russophobia within the organization would intensify.

Earlier, former Polish President Aleksander Kwasniewski told the onet.pl portal that Duda, having completed his presidential term in 2025, was considering running for the post of IOC chief.

“Let this Russophobe claim whatever he wants. If this happens, Russophobia will only intensify. But we will survive. We should not worry about such people. We need to create our own Games and build relations with friendly countries. I think the Italians will definitely join us, because at the Paris Olympics their athlete, boxer Angela Carini, was humiliated,” Kozhevnikov noted.

On 17 August, the 142nd IOC Session was held in Paris, during which Thomas Bach, 70, announced that he would not be re-elected for a new term. Bach has led the IOC since 2013, and in October 2023, at its 141st Session, a number of members of the organisation proposed amending the Olympic Charter to allow him to stay for a third term. Elections for the new IOC President will take place in March 2025.
