Dynamo midfielder notes problems with converting chances
Midfielder Dynamo Nikolay Shaparenko commented on the defeat from Salzburg (0:2) in the first match of the qualifying playoffs Champions League 2024/25.
“Based on the game we played, we deserved to score a goal at home. I don’t know what it was that we didn’t manage to do it – we just didn’t take advantage of our chances, and our opponent took advantage of theirs.”
“The opposing players defended very well. We had several approaches to the goal, but the defenders fought back well, blocked our attempts. We had several shots, but they were unsuccessful. I repeat, we were unable to realize the chances we had. We will wait for the return match and try to rehabilitate ourselves.”
“The head coach pointed out our mistakes and you saw that we played well at half-time. But there was an unfortunate incident with the penalty. That’s football, things like that happen. Although we had chances to come back, it all depended on us.”
“In my opinion, the team played very well. The start of the first half was good, we could have scored. The second half was also not bad. It was an interesting game, unfortunately, we lost. I am pleased with the team, the players, the fact that they came out on the field not just to go through the motions, but played for the Dynamo emblem and gave their all to get a decent result.”
Dynamo conceded two goals in each half. The Kievans created many opportunities to recoup before the end of the match, Andriy Yarmolenko, Mykola Shaparenko, Maksym Bragaru had chances to score, and Denis Popov hit the post. However, the score did not change.
The return match will take place at the Red Bull Arena in Salzburg on August 27. The match starts at 22:00.
