Athletistic / Tennis. Olympic speed skating champion and now a deputy of the State Duma of the Russian Federation Svetlana Zhurova said she does not believe the version of the world’s first racket, Italian Jannik Sinner, about how a banned substance was discovered in his doping control. On August 20, the International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA) announced that Sinner had two positive doping controls in March 2024, but avoided disqualification because he was able to prove that clostebol entered his body as a result of an unfortunate accident.
“Now we can definitely say that this is all just a double standard. We can remember our Kamila Valieva. And this is an even more serious story. We remember how everything happened in Valieva’s case, and it turned out that she had another, not at all serious drug. And there was actually a microdose.
“And Sinner’s fantasy about cream, injuries… It must be told right away, it must be invented right away. I suspect that people who use illegal drugs in one way or another know in advance what they will say in their own defense,” Zhurova was quoted as saying by Match TV.
Jannik Sinner won the Masters Series tournament in Cincinnati (USA) on August 19, claiming his fifth title in 2024. Previously, the Italian had won the Australian Open, the ATP-500 tournaments in Rotterdam and Hall, as well as the Masters in Miami. The 23-year-old Italian now has 15 titles in his career.
