Chilwell offered to Manchester United – Chelsea boss Maresca not interested in defender

Italian manager makes it clear Ben and Sterling ‘better off’

Defense attorney services Chelsea Ben Chilwell were proposed Manchester United. Head coach Enzo Maresca made it clear once again that he was not counting on the player.

The footballer is close to leaving Chelsea, although his contract with the Blues does not expire for another three years. A deal could work out, as Chilwell himself is eager for regular playing time, and the Red Devils need a quality left-back due to injuries to Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia. The main issue will be agreeing a transfer between the clubs.

At a press conference on Wednesday, Maresca, when asked about the future of Chilwell and winger Raheem Sterling, frankly admitted:

“They train separately. The situation with both of them is very clear. We have a big squad and it is impossible to give them all playing minutes. If they are looking for playing time, they should leave.”

“I try to be honest. I spoke to Raheem before the Manchester City game. I said it would be difficult for him to get minutes with us and that was the reason for his absence. And as for Chilli, he is a lovely guy, but I said it would be difficult for him in his position. It is not cruel, it is just honest.”

Maresca has previously admitted that Chilwell “would be better off leaving.” The coach clearly sees European champion Marc Cucurella as the main left-back.

Recall that recently it was reported that Ukrainian Mykhailo Mudryk’s competitor Sterling, after not being included in the application for the opening round match against Manchester City (0:2), intends to clarify his future at the club. Subsequently, Rahim was not included in the application for the match against Servette in the Conference League playoffs, which will take place today at 22:00.

Chilwell, 27, could follow in the footsteps of midfielder Mason Mount, who joined United from Chelsea for £55m last summer.

Ben has been playing for Chelsea since 2020, having moved from Leicester. His current contract runs until the summer of 2027. Last season, Ben played 21 matches for the Londoners, missing a significant part of the time due to injuries.
