Let us recall that earlier, during the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris, the President of the Ukrainian Judo Federation Mykhailo Koshlyak called the Olympics a failure for Ukraine, while promising to draw conclusions after returning home.
Ukraine was represented by three judokas at the 2024 Olympics, and none of them managed to compete for medals. The closest to this was Yelizaveta Litvinenko, who first lost to the first seeded Alisa Bellandi of Italy in the quarterfinals in the weight category up to 78 kg, and then lost the consolation match, losing the chance to fight for bronze.
In addition, Daria Belodid lost in the 1/8 finals in the weight category up to 57 kg to Japanese Haruko Funakubo, and Christina Goman lost to the representative of the Netherlands Marit Kamps in the 1/16 finals in the weight category over 78 kg.
The Ukrainian male judokas did not perform any better. Dilshot Khalmatov lost to the future champion Ildou Smetov from Kazakhstan in the 1/8 finals of the up to 60 kg category, and Bogdan Yadov lost to Mongolian representative Bakshi Yondonperelei at the same stage (up to 66 kg).
The Ukrainian team won 12 medals (three gold) at the Paris Olympics and took 22nd place overall. Ukraine was represented by 140 athletes in 23 sports – the smallest representation of the blue and yellows during their participation in the Olympics.
