Athletistic/MOK. The President of the All-Russian Rhythmic Gymnastics Federation (VFKhG) Irina Wiener said that there is no reason to expect an improvement in Russia’s relations with the International Olympic Committee (IOC) if Sebastian Coe, President of the World Athletics Federation, or Polish President Andrzej Duda is elected as IOC chief.

Current IOC President Thomas Bach had previously announced that he would not be re-elected for a new term. Elections for a new president will take place in March 2025 at the IOC Session in Athens, with the list of candidates to be announced on 16 September 2024.

World Athletics chief Sebastian Coe has already said he is considering running for IOC president. Former Polish leader Aleksander Kwasniewski has said Andrzej Duda is also considering the election.

“Sebastian Coe and Polish President Andrzej Duda have presented their candidacies to replace Bach. If such partners gain leadership, we cannot hope for anything good,” Wiener said at the “Territory of Meanings” forum.

Presidential elections in Poland are scheduled to take place in mid-2025, but Duda will not be able to participate due to a constitutional restriction prohibiting him from serving as head of state for more than two terms.
