Russian Valery Morozov, who plays for English rugby club Worcester, spoke in an interview with about the attitude of local residents towards him.
Morozov played in the English Premier League for clubs Sale Sharks and Bath. In the summer, the 27-year-old moved to Worcester.
– You said that there were no nationality problems in Bata, since they knew you even before the special operation. And Worcester? Are all the players okay?
– In “Bath”, other questions were asked, because everything had just started. Moved here – no problem. They are well received. Everyone is interested that the Russian guy has arrived. However, the mentality is slightly different. We communicate.
It’s my third club in the Premiership. There were no nationality issues anywhere. This is where the team is built. They don’t care where you’re from. The team, on the contrary, federates.
“Is everything okay in the city too?”
– Yes. Worcester is a rugby town. Because there are no other professional teams here. It happens that you leave training, you go to the store in a club T-shirt, people are interested. I have never met anyone who treats me badly. People understand everything. What attitude can the British have towards me if I am a professional athlete? Why should I be mistreated?
“Have you ever met any radical people?”
– Never. Interesting to meet. I would ask, “Why?”
– Maybe they are afraid to say something because of your size?
– Maybe. Maybe they’re just scared of the Russians. This is also practiced here. They find out you’re Russian – and your facial expression changes a bit. Different stereotypes about Russia. But the attitude towards me is completely normal, human.
