Zakhar Petrov failed to reach the final of the single canoe competition at the World Championships in Uzbekistan

Russian Zakhar Petrov took second place in the preliminary race of a single canoe over a distance of 500 meters at the World Championships in Uzbekistan.

Sergei Tarnovsky of Moldova finished first in the race (1 minute 56.319 seconds). Petrov clocked 1:58.800 and will compete in the semifinals later Friday. The final will be held on July 25.

Earlier, Petrov and Ivan Dmitriev reached the final of the 1,000-meter canoe-double competition.

In addition, Russian canoeist Alina Kovaleva, who finished fourth in the 500-meter preliminary race, was unable to qualify directly for the final of the competition. She will compete in the semifinals, which will take place on Friday. The final is scheduled for Sunday.

The World Kayak and Canoe Championships are taking place in Samarkand and will end on August 25. The Russians were admitted to this tournament with a neutral status.

At the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris, Petrov posted his fourth result in the canoe singles 1000m competition, and was also one step away from a medal with Alexey Korovashkov in the canoe doubles 500m final.
