Rylov’s coach: “Without our guys, backstroke swimming at the Olympics looked quite modest”

Men’s backstroke at Paris Games looked rather modest without Russian athletes, says coach of two-time Olympic champion Evgenia Rylova Andrei Shishin.

Among Russian swimmers, only breaststroker Evgeniy Somov received neutral status to compete at the Olympics. Rylov won the 100 and 200 meters backstroke at the Tokyo Games.

“It’s pretty sad that both backstroke results were slower than at the last Olympics. Without our guys, the backstroke looked pretty modest.

But in some disciplines there was a real celebration and exceptional results. I would of course like to note the Chinese in the 100m freestyle, it is a big step forward. And of course (Leon) Marchand,” Shishin told .
