Athletistic/ Others. Five-time Russian marathon champion Sardana Trofimova will compete for the Kyrgyz national team starting in the new competition season.
The transition was approved by the Presidium of the Russian Athletics Federation (VFLA). Trofimova, 34, previously announced that she had received Kyrgyz citizenship in order to play in that country’s national team at the 2024 Olympics in Paris.
Sardana became the Russian marathon champion in 2015, 2018, 2019, 2020 and 2021. Trofimova also won the Russian Marathon Cup twice (2016, 2018) and became a three-time winner of the Moscow Marathon (2017, 2018 , 2020).
