Ukrainian performs successfully at tournament in Silesia
Ukrainian track and field athlete Oleg Doroshchuk commented on his performance at the stage Diamond League V Silesia.
“I was ready. I wanted to jump even higher. At the Olympics, I felt that I could jump normally. Here, during the warm-up, I also made a couple of trial jumps – excellent. My body recovered during this time, prepared. This is what we were counting on. I had a good attempt at 2.33 meters, I survived one more.”
“A jump of 2.33 meters? We’ll see. Maybe this season; maybe next. It’s hard to predict. In the winter, I jumped 2.29 meters at the Ukrainian Championships, then I left and did three starts – in the last one I got 2.30 meters. The next start is already 30 [августа] in Rome, also a stage of the Diamond League. Perhaps such preparation and cycle will “suit” me.
“I always tried to get everything on the first try. You spend less energy. There is no point in jumping on the second or third try. You will always be higher during the competition [при равных результатах]. That’s why it should be done this way.”
“Achieving the final of the Diamond League? In principle, there is a chance. If I’m not mistaken, there will be six people in the final. I wouldn’t say they are very high [шансы]but there is.”
«[Не устал от выступлений?] No, it’s awesome. [выступлений] I enjoy it. I like everything now: that I am starting to test my jump, make adjustments for the competition. Gaining more experience is also important. At such competitions and with such competitors, it is cool.”
Oleg won bronze in the high jump at his debut stage of the Diamond League in Silesia. Doroshchuk cleared the bar at a height of 2.29 m on his second attempt. Jamaican Romaine Beckford cleared the same height of 2.29 m, but on his first attempt, which allowed him to receive a silver medal. Gold went to Italian Gianmarco Tamberi, whose result was 2.31 m.
At the Diamond League stage in Polish Silesia, Oleg Doroshchuk’s bronze became the second medal for Ukraine – earlier, Mikhail Kokhan won silver in the hammer throw.
