Athletistic/MOK. Russian Curling Federation President Dmitry Svishchev told RIA Novosti that the new president of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) should be a person occupying an independent and productive position, not influenced by countries or sponsors.

At the 142nd IOC session, the organization’s president, Thomas Bach, 70, announced that he would not be re-elected for a new term.

Svishchev stressed: “A good IOC President for Russia is one who will take an independent and productive position towards athletes of all countries and will not depend on IOC sponsors or certain states. It is important that the new President is not afraid to make independent decisions and does not ask permission from others to take his actions.”

  • Vasiliev predicted the emergence of a rival organization to the IOC
