The “iron” distance was the first not only for the president of the Russian Triathlon Federation, but also for the world capitals. The event was truly unprecedented and historical.
On August 25, Ksenia Shoigu ran her first long distance of 226 km together with other race participants as part of the large-scale sports festival “THRIATHLON LEAGUE & IRONSTAR MOSCOW 226”. The head of the FTR carefully prepared for the race, showing the preparation process on her telegram channel, and passed her first “iron” test with dignity.
“I never thought in my life that I would cover such a long distance. It seemed impossible to me… I am happy! A very beautiful city, wonderful people on incredibly beautiful bikes, wonderful weather. I congratulate everyone on a great start!” — the President of the Russian Triathlon Federation and Head of the Organizing Committee of the TRIATHLON LEAGUE & IRONSTAR MOSCOW 226 event commented on his participation in the race.
On August 24-25, a large-scale sports festival “THRIATHLON LEAGUE & IRONSTAR MOSCOW 226” was held in Moscow. Athletes competed in long-distance (226 km) and middle-distance (113 km). The event was held with the support of the Moscow Sports Department.
The long distance of 226 km consists of several stages that follow one another continuously – the swimming stage is 3.8 km; the cycling stage 180 km; the running stage 42.2 km. The average distance of 113 km is half as long: the swimming stage is 1.9 km; the cycling stage 90 km; the running stage 21.1 km.
Start of the triathlon long distance to Moscow became a historic event, because for the first time in the history of this sport, such a large-scale competition was held in one of the world capitals. Competitions on distances of 226 km and 113 km were held within the framework of a series of amateur starts of the Russian Triathlon Federation “THRIATHLON LEAGUE”. The event was truly unprecedented, because for the first time in the history of such competitions, two transit zones were organized for the race participants: the first was located in Krylatskoye on the Rowing Canal, the second in Luzhniki. 4,000 amateur triathletes took part in the long-distance amateur race (226 km). The oldest participant in the “iron” distance was 73-year-old Lyudmila Voronova, a member of the “Council of Elders” of the FTR. Paratriathletes also took part in the sports festival.
In addition, within the framework of the festival, on August 25, the Russian Middle Distance Triathlon Championship among professional triathletes was held. The strongest athletes took part in the championship, and a powerful sports struggle lasted between the triathletes until the last kilometers.
