Sports doctor spoke about the effect of drugs found in the body of disqualified figure skater Gorobchenko

Sports doctor Nikita Karlitsky told how meldonium and sibutramine work, which were found in the body of figure skater Varvara Gorobchenko, disqualified for doping, who trained at Plushenko’s Angels Academy.

Earlier, the RUSADA press service reported that meldonium and sibutramine were found in the 17-year-old athlete’s sample. Gorobchenko’s five-year exclusion period begins on May 15, 2023, and ends on May 14, 2028. After that, a post appeared on the social networks of the “Angels of Plushenko” Academy, according to which the skater left the academy long before the decision on disqualification for doping was made.

“This is a complete disregard of anti-doping rules by the athlete. Everyone knows about meldonium, even non-athletes, that it is prohibited. Although it is a good drug to prevent the consequences of lack of oxygen in the body. And only the lazy did not talk about it.

The second drug, sibutramine, is much more interesting. Efficiency and endurance are significantly increased, and the feeling of fear is reduced. American gymnast Simone Biles uses drugs from this series. It is still unclear how she got permission, because this drug is 100% doping and its use is prohibited for athletes at any time and in any quantity. The prescription of meldonium in this regimen is aimed at trying to compensate for the side effects of taking sibutramine, Karlitsky told .
