Ronaldo to be crowned Champions League all-time top scorer

The special award will be presented to the Portuguese at the 2024/25 Champions League main round draw ceremony

Forward Al Nasr Cristiano Ronaldo will be awarded the title of top scorer Champions League throughout history. President UEFA Aleksandar Ceferin noted that the Portuguese’s successful achievements pose a difficult task for future generations to surpass them.

“Cristiano Ronaldo is one of the brightest stars in the UEFA Champions League constellation. His outstanding goalscoring record in this competition seems destined to stand the test of time, posing a challenge for future generations to surpass. The level is testament to his relentless pursuit of team and individual honours.”

“Over two decades, he has continually developed and improved his game, while retaining his youthful passion for scoring and celebrating goals. His professionalism, hard work, dedication and ability to shine on the grandest stage are qualities that footballers around the world should strive to emulate.”

The special award will be presented to the Portuguese at the draw ceremony for the 2024/25 Champions League main round, which will take place on August 29 in Monaco.

Ronaldo has scored 140 goals in 183 Champions League appearances, putting him 11 ahead of Lionel Messi and 46 ahead of third-placed Robert Lewandowski, who leads the scoring charts among current European players.

Cristiano Ronaldo has been playing for Al-Nassr in Saudi Arabia since January 2023. In a recent interview, the Portuguese said that he could end his playing career in two or three years, and will probably do so at his current club.
