An athlete from the Russian Paralympic team, Andrei Vdovin, told about the conditions in which the delegation lives in the Parisian district of Saint-Denis.
The Paris Paralympic Games will take place from August 28 to September 8.
— What are your impressions of the first days in Paris?
– Everything is wonderful and great. There is nothing to complain about. I heard about someone swearing on a bed in the Olympic Village. But overall, I am happy with everything. Yes, the beds are made of cardboard and the mattresses are made of plastic. But we disassembled these beds; they consist of three parts. There is no discomfort. Even if we compare it with Tokyo 2020, our figure is better.
– For what?
— We had a room in Japan with a window overlooking the entrance courtyard. And here we have a panoramic window overlooking the street.
“But the athletes’ village is located in the criminal zone of San Denis.
– We don’t feel it. And we have guards everywhere. In the first two days, I explored all of Paris. We are quietly freed from the village. We saw the Eiffel Tower, Notre Dame Cathedral, went to the Louvre and walked everywhere, especially since some metro stations were closed.
Imagine, I walked 25 km that day. My pedometer just froze. Even though I am an athlete, this is a lot, even for me. But I deliberately watched everything in the first days, so that later no one would insist on the need to prepare and tune in. There are still three days left before the first start, but I have already watched a lot, ”Vdovin told .
