Warren: Dubois lost interest in fight with Usyk

The promoter was disappointed with the Briton’s reaction to the progress of the fight

Promoter Frank Warren said that the British heavyweight Daniel Dubois lost interest in the fight during the fight with the Ukrainian Alexander Usik.

“I’m not disappointed anymore, that’s in the past. But I think that fight made Dubois who he is. At that point, I was obviously upset with what the referee did. And to a certain extent, I was disappointed with Daniel in that fight. He seemed to lose interest in the fight and was very depressed at that point when he felt the referee was biased.”

“He was biased, but I told Daniel afterwards, ‘At the end of the day, you’re a young guy, you can be your own referee.’ When things don’t go your way, you grit your teeth and carry on. That’s what Dubois did in his last two fights. He gritted his teeth and showed what he was made of.”

Usyk defeated Dubois in August 2023. During the fight, the Briton landed a punch that the referee considered below the belt, which Daniel did not like. Usyk subsequently knocked out the Briton.

Dubois will defend his IBF heavyweight title against Anthony Joshua on September 21. Daniel was given the title after Usyk relinquished it.
