Athletistic/Paralympics. State Duma deputy Svetlana Zhurova commented on the information that the French authorities refused to issue visas to two Russian athletes to participate in the Paralympic Games.

Swimmer Andrei Granichka and table tennis player Victoria Safonova were unable to obtain visas to enter France.

“The French authorities may have their own reasons for refusing. For example, a change of citizenship can become a reason for refusing a visa, especially if it is a question of switching from Ukrainian to Russian. They may be worried about how this will be perceived by the Ukrainian Paralympic team, which is clearly against allowing Russian athletes. Perhaps this was organized with the support of the authorities. Someone should have reported this,” Zhurova noted in a commentary for SE.
