Former Chelsea and Barcelona defender Alonso joins Celta

A new page in the career of a representative of a glorious football dynasty

Celta officially signed a contract with the famous defender Marcos AlonsoThe 33-year-old footballer arrived as a free agent and signed a 1+1 contract.

Alonso is a third-generation professional footballer, the grandson of a Real Madrid legend, the son of a Barcelona and Atletico Madrid legend. Marcos started out in the capital’s Castilla, but never made it to the Blancos’ first team. His next clubs were Bolton and Fiorentina, from where he moved to Chelsea in 2016.

In 2022, Alonso became a Barcelona player, but in the 2023/24 season, due to health reasons, he played only in eight matches. Back in April, it became known that the Blaugrana had made a final decision not to renew the contract with the aging player. At the end of June, the player and the club parted ways for good.

Alonso played 9 matches for the Spanish national team, made two assists (both in a friendly match with Iceland in 2022 – 5:0). He became the vice-champion of the 2021 Nations League.

Celta started the new La Liga campaign with two wins before losing to Villarreal 3-4. In the fourth round, the team from Vigo will travel to Osasuna on September 1.
