Athletistic/MOK. State Duma committee member Dmitry Svishchev expressed doubts that the change of IOC president would lead to an improvement in the attitude towards Russia.

Since 2013, the IOC has been led by German Thomas Bach, and elections for a new president are scheduled for March 2025. Possible candidates mentioned include World Athletics director Sebastian Coe, IOC vice-president Juan Antonio Samaranch Jr. and International Gymnastics Federation (FIG) president Morinari Watanabe.

“I have no illusions. Whoever leads the Olympic movement will have a hard time making decisions regarding Russia and Belarus. The pressure of anti-Russian and Russophobic sentiments will continue.

A special role is played by the collective position of some countries, such as the Baltic countries, Poland and Ukraine, which are not interested in the return of Russian athletes to the international arena. They will prevent this in every possible way – call, write complaints, as they are doing now. I doubt that the new IOC president will be able to make a fair decision, without considering politics, which would contribute to the development of the Olympic movement,” Svishchev was quoted as saying by RIA Novosti.
