Anna Stetsenko (with a new Paralympic record) and Yaroslav Denisenko brought our country three awards between them
Another medal haul from Ukrainian swimmers Paralympic Games 2024 in Paris: Anna Stetsenko And Yaroslav Denisenko They added three medals to the national team’s collection, which they managed to win between them on the last day of summer.
First, Yaroslav managed to show the third result in the final 100-meter backstroke in the S12 class. The Ukrainian lost two and a half seconds to the British Stephen Clegg, who set a new world record.
Stetsenko was no less successful in the same discipline among women. The four-time Paralympic champion (three victories in Rio, one in Tokyo) this time was unable to win the highest award, losing in the fight for gold to Brazilian Maria Carolina Gomes Santiago.
Later that day, Anna won her second and Ukraine’s 15th medal in Paris. She managed to show the third result in the 400m freestyle in the S13 class (meaning her competitors were athletes with less severe visual impairments).
Because she competed in a different class, Stetsenko’s result (4:36.17) became a new Paralympic record for the S12 class.
Thanks to Denisenko and Stetsenko, the Ukrainian team now has 15 medals (one gold, 8 silver, 6 bronze) at the 2024 Paralympic Games. So far, the only gold for our country was won by swimmer Alexander Komarov.
The 2024 Paralympics are taking place in Paris from August 28 to September 8. The Ukrainian team is represented at the Games by 140 athletes. Ukrainians are competing in 17 of the 22 Paralympic sports – a record in the history of our country.
