Andrey and Evgeny secured Ukraine’s second double podium in Paris
Another day of competition on 2024 Paralympic Games in Paris ended for Ukraine three more medals in swimming.
The first two were won by Paralympic champions of previous years Andrey Trusov And Evgeniy BogodaykoThey climbed onto the podium together, taking second and third place respectively in the final of the 200m medley in the SM7 class.
Andriy was leading for part of the distance, but at the very finish line his Argentine competitor managed to overtake him. Bogodayko, on the contrary, was always outside the top three, but in the last meters he made a dash for a medal. This is the second double podium for Ukraine in Paris – the previous one took place in track and field thanks to the results of Vladimir Ponomarenko and Roman Danylyuk.
For Trusov, this Paralympic medal was the seventh in his career. At Tokyo 2021, Andrey stood on the podium six times, including two golds. Bogodayko is more experienced – Paris was his fourth Paralympic Games. Since London 2012, the swimmer has already won 14 awards, including six golds.
Later, Marina Poddubnaya made her contribution to the national team by coming in third in the 50m freestyle in the S11 class. The champion with a world record was the Chinese Ma Zhiya.
Poddubnaya is participating in her third Paralympics. The athlete has been performing consistently – in Rio 2016 and Tokyo 2021, Marina also won one bronze medal each.
After such a finish to the day, the Ukrainian team now has 19 medals (one gold, 9 silver, 9 bronze) at the 2024 Paralympic Games. 13 of them were won in swimming. So far, the only “gold” for our country was won by swimmer Alexander Komarov.
