Athletistic/ Figure Skating. Honored coach of the USSR in figure skating Tatyana Tarasova shared her opinion on the possible deprivation of Lithuanian figure skaters Margarita Drobyazko and Povilas Vanagas from state awards.
“A disgusting decision, a real genocide. Throughout their lives, they loved their country so much that they did not go to play for Russia. And they lost a lot because of it. They were told thousands times of their transition to Russia, but they always remained loyal to their country,” Tarasova said.
Povilas Vanagas and Margarita Drobyazko announced their desire to participate in Tatyana Navka’s “Swan Lake” ice show. In response, Foreign Minister of Lithuania Gabrielis Landsbergis proposed to deprive Drobiazko and Vanagas of state awards – the Knightly Orders of Grand Duke of Lithuania Gediminas, awarded to figure skaters in 2000. Drobyazko may also end up without Lithuanian nationality.
Margarita Drobiazko and Povilas Vanagas are 13 times Lithuanian champions (1992-2002, 2005, 2006), twice European Championship bronze medalists (2000, 2006) and World Championship bronze medalists (2000) in dance on ice.
