Former defender dies at age 39 Cardiff And Ivory Coast national team Sol Bamba.
Sol was most recently working as technical director at Turkish side Adanaspor. On Friday, August 30, he fell ill during a league match against Manisa. Bamba was immediately hospitalized, but died in the hospital on August 31. The exact cause of death has not been disclosed.
Bamba is a product of PSG, for whose main team he played 1 game. Sol spent the lion’s share of his career in England, where he defended the colors of Leicester, Leeds, Cardiff and Middlesbrough. The main club in the defender’s career was Cardiff, for which he played from 2016 to 2021 and wore the captain’s armband.
After retiring in 2022, Bamba worked within the Cardiff structure before joining Adanaspor.
Bamba played 46 matches for the Ivory Coast national team and scored 2 goals. As part of the Elephants, he participated in the 2010 World Cup in South Africa and also reached the final of the 2012 African Cup of Nations.
