Pregnancy is a decision. For an active athlete, there are even two: not only the norm for all women “child with whom?”, but also “child at what precise moment?”
I report: the pregnancy is expected, planned, natural (without IVF).
The decision is of course joint with my partner, but the initiative is mine. The way I run my races, including my head, is my way of life. I do nothing without thinking and weighing the pros and cons. The “pros” are currently outdated. The main factor: age. I have observed, listened, read and finally discussed in advance with obstetricians-gynecologists, neonatologists and pediatricians. Everything, absolutely everything indicates that the younger you are, the better! Fewer risk factors.
The year was also taken into account – I solved all the problems of the first stage of my sports career, and there is still a year and a half left before the Olympics. And of course, I carefully observed how they return to sports after giving birth. Tatiana Sorina And Yulia Stupak my colleagues in the Olympic relay – they had only a year and a half left before the Beijing Olympics.
In recent months, I have been paying particular attention to his way of living and acting. Natalia Terentieva — I will follow in her footsteps, train throughout my pregnancy and prepare to continue my sports career in 2025.
Now let’s talk about advertising.
Not everyone from the older generation understands our “exposed life”, but they (you) will have to get used to it – we, the children of social networks, are already adults, and this life is ours and the world is also ours. . But everyone’s approaches are different. The “basic model” is to demonstrate your personal happiness in detail, in photos and videos. And always against the backdrop of beautiful landscapes, fashionable restaurants and powerful cars. Then a ring, a white dress, a luxurious ceremony, a big belly, a stroller, etc.
In principle, I do not mind, I am even ready to participate in something – I like my new ring, it is convenient because it can be transformed in size, they say that pregnant women’s fingers swell. But I firmly believe that the algorithm of personal happiness can be anything – as convenient and as you like.
I found mine. Anyway, I made a choice: I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone watching for not trying to give unsolicited advice. Smart, sensitive people!
Another interesting and pleasant moment about sensitivity: dozens of people knew that I was pregnant for several weeks. The first people to know about the coveted plus sign on an athlete’s test are the team doctor and coach. Because you can’t train as usual – the risk is great, you urgently need to change your plans. Well, I didn’t think it was worth hiding the sudden changes from my teammates – asking them, naturally, to keep it between us for now. No one has revealed or posted it on social networks these days. Thank you!
My decision was supported by all my immediate superiors: the director of the national team center Georgy Bryusov, the president of the Ski Racing Federation of Tatarstan Ilshat Fardiev. Elena Vyalbe immediately offered all the necessary assistance. I am specifically writing about this in detail so that girls from other sports know: this is how things are in ski racing, our key people know how to respect the decision of a young woman – even if it affects the medal plans for the next season. So that girls from other sports know this – and, if necessary, work in advance with their bosses, set an example for them!
Finally, why am I writing and talking about this so much and in detail? Having a child is not like having a hamster. You take on the responsibility of a new life for many, many years to come. We have to look for and estimate resources and opportunities. On the one hand, the situation has changed radically for the better. Here, my mother and I are now sitting at home in Kamchatka and discussing what was available to a pregnant woman and a young mother at the beginning of the century and what is available today. Heaven and earth, judging by what she says. In all these 24 years since Anna, my mother, found out she was pregnant with me, the state has invested crazy amounts of money to make Russian women want to give birth. I attended the speeches of the Russian President twice this year – at his address to the Federal Assembly and at the SPIEF plenary session in St. Petersburg. And every time I remember with what concern, even tension (it seemed to me) he spoke about demography as one of the most important problems of the country. And this problem, unfortunately, is not solved, there is nothing positive – I look at the statistics:
“By the end of 2023, the total fertility rate in Russia fell to 1.41, reaching a multi-year low.”
“Between January and March 2024, 300.2 thousand people were born in Russia, which is 10.8 thousand babies (or 3.5%) fewer than in the same period a year earlier.”
Now a horde of idiots will tap on their phone screens, commenting in the spirit “Stepanova got pregnant after hearing Putin’s call to give birth, heh heh”. I am sure that the absolute majority understands: we really have a problem and if it is not solved, then in a generation it will become not just bad, but extremely bad! You can, of course, trust someone else (or rather, someone else) to decide this, and in my free time I will go skiing, running and traveling to exotic countries – I have the strength, I have the money. This is the money I want to spend on my child, and not on trips or expensive things. Let every girl among those who are now twenty to thirty years old, for whom all this was written, decide for herself. I have made my decision.
