The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) has deprived the Russian athlete Tatiana Tomachova silver medal at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London in the 1,500-meter race, the court’s press service reported.
The CAS found the Russian guilty of violating anti-doping rules and disqualified her for 10 years. The tribunal also annulled all of the athlete’s results in competitions from June 21, 2012 to January 3, 2015, and stripped her of all titles, awards, medals, points, prize money and cash.
Following repeated testing, anabolic steroids were detected during the athlete’s doping controls carried out on 21 June and 17 July 2012, out of competition.
In March 2017, it became known that Tomashova would receive silver at the 2012 Olympics in the 1,500 meters. The athlete finished fourth at the 2012 Olympics. The redistribution of medals took place after the disqualification of Gamze Bulut and Asli Alptekin from Turkey for doping.
