Daniil, who had previously received the status of a free agent, signed a three-year contract with the Champions League debutant
Ex-midfielder Miner, Dnepra-1 And Bordeaux Daniil Ignatenko officially introduced as a new player Bratislava Slovan.
As previously announced, the Ukrainian signed a three-year contract with the new club. Daniil himself commented on his transfer as follows:
“I am very happy to put on the sky blue shirt. I am starting a new stage in my career, which I am looking forward to. I came with the desire to help this team. We are going to play in the Champions League, which has always been my dream. So I can’t wait to play my first match for Slovan. Especially in this beautiful stadium, which is simply amazing.”
Ignatenko was a Shakhtar player for a long time, played on loan for Mariupol (three times), Ferencvaros and SK Dnipro-1. In January 2022, Danylo moved to Bordeaux, and together with the club, was relegated from the top division to Ligue 2.
In August of this year, the Girondins were demoted to the fourth division due to debts. The Ukrainian midfielder received the status of a free agent. In the French club, he played 81 matches, scored four goals, and gave five assists.
From the summer of 2022 to the summer of 2023, Ignatenko was called up to the ranks of the Ukrainian national team – six matches (two in the starting lineup), one goal scored (against Armenia in the Nations League).
Slovan is the hegemon of Slovak football, having won the national championship for the last six years and 14 times in total. The Sky Blues also have eight championship titles within Czechoslovakia. The club museum even has a full-fledged European trophy – Slovan won the Cup Winners’ Cup in 1969.
This summer, the team of the well-known Vladimir Weiss accomplished a feat: they broke through four qualifying barriers and, for the first time in their history, won the right to participate in the group stage of the Champions League.
In the group stage of the main European Cup, Slovan will play against Manchester City, Bayern, Milan, Atletico, Dinamo Zagreb, Celtic, Stuttgart and Girona.
