Tokyo Olympics silver medalist pole vault coach Svetlana Abramova Angelique Sidorova believes that a male coach could not work with an athlete.
Abramova’s personal best in this sport is 4.2 meters. Sidorova, 31,’s best result is 5.01m.
– I was extremely happy when Angelica blocked my result. Fear was at the very beginning of his coaching career. It so happened that I started working as a coach in September 2002, and in November Sidorova came to see me. She came from gymnastics and, interestingly, from the same trainer with whom I myself worked – Elena Khakimova. I was with her in the first set, Angelica in the last. Children who arrive at the pole after gymnastics are different: they know how to work, they are focused on the result in a completely different way. Therefore, from the beginning, I asked myself the question: can I give this girl what she deserves based on her talent and ability. Somehow we immediately realized that we had found each other. We found a common language, and above all, we were in no hurry. I was just afraid to rush, I was very careful, I made demands.
With Angelica, none of the male coaches would simply have understood. She’s different, not like everyone else. I can’t even say in one word what his talent is. It seems to be small, there is no crazy data. But that’s the outer shell. And inside there is some kind of incredible core that allowed and allows you to show the maximum possible result at the right time and in the right place. It’s like walking on a razor’s edge. And somehow, I immediately felt it. Then I started to find traits in Angelica that set me apart. That’s probably why it’s always been easy for me to understand her, quotes RT Abramova.
Sidorova is also the 2019 world champion.
