Georgiy scored against the Czechs after coming on as a substitute, but was unable to save his team from defeat
Midfielder Ukrainian national team Georgy Sudakov publicly apologized for the national team’s poor performance in the first two rounds Nations League 2024/25.
“We have let our country down and I apologise for that. We always do our best for our country and we must remain united. There is still a long way to go and we know we need to do much better,” the 22-year-old wrote on his social media account.
Let us recall that on September 7, the blue-yellows suffered a 1:2 defeat to Albania in a formally home match of the 1st round of Group B1 of the 2024/25 Nations League. Three days later, Sergei Rebrov’s team lost to the Czech Republic in a high-scoring match of the 2nd round (2:3).
In the match against Albania, Sudakov played from the first minutes, but did not make any positive impression. In the second round match, he came on as a substitute and scored a goal at the end of the match, reducing the gap in the score to a minimum. Subsequently, Georgiy had a chance to bring Ukraine a draw, but his shot was blocked by the hosts’ goalkeeper Matej Kovarzh.

The Ukrainian team is at the bottom of the tournament table of Group B1. Albania and the Czech Republic have three points after two rounds, Georgia is in the lead with two wins.
In October, Rebrov’s team will play Georgia in Poznan, after which they will play the second match against the Czech Republic in Wroclaw. Ukraine will play the final two rounds of its 2024/2025 Quartet of Nations in November of this year.
