The Ivorian was close to AEK, but the move fell through at the last moment
Forward Chelsea David Datro Fofana one step away from switching to Turkish Goztepe on a one-year lease basis.
The deal will include a buyout option, with the Blues having the right to end the loan early and reclaim the player from January 1, 2025.
Earlier, Greek AEK were close to signing the 21-year-old Ivorian on loan, but the deal fell through at the last minute.
Fofana joined Chelsea from Molde in Norway in January 2023. He has only made four appearances for the Blues (113 minutes in total). The forward spent the 2023/24 season on loan at Union Berlin (17 matches, two goals, one assist) and Burnley (four goals and one assist in 15 matches).
In Goztepe, David will become a temporary teammate of former Shakhtar defender Novatus Miroshi, who signed a four-year contract with the Turkish club.
Chelsea are in 11th place in the Premier League after three rounds. In the group stage of the Conference League, the Londoners will play Gent, Heidenheim, Astana, Shamrock Rovers, Panathinaikos and Noah. The first round is scheduled for October 3.
Goztepe moved up a class following the results of last season and is currently unbeaten in the Turkish Super League, occupying sixth place after four rounds.
