Maguchikh: My Olympic title brought joy to Ukraine for one day, but the next day a rocket hit a children’s hospital. I cried a lot then

Yaroslava continues to glorify her country on the international stage and will perform in the Diamond League Superfinal in the coming days

Ukrainian track and field athlete, Olympic champion Yaroslav Maguchikh told what motivates her to achieve the highest results, and also shared her plans for her future sports career.

“I fight for my country, on the track. I jump for my country and its people. They tell me that my achievements bring a little joy to their lives. My Olympic title brought joy to Ukraine for one day, but the next day a missile hit a children’s hospital. I cried a lot then.”

“I haven’t seen my family since October 2023. After the competition, I’ll go to my hometown in Ukraine for two months.”

“Yes, I am a European, world and Olympic champion and a world record holder. But I want to win many more medals. I will definitely compete for another ten years.”

Let us recall that on July 7, Maguchikh broke the world record for high jump, which had stood since 1987 – Yaroslava cleared a height of 2.10 m at the Diamond League stage in Paris.

At the 2024 Olympic Games, Maguchikh won gold in the high jump, clearing the bar at a height of 2.00 meters.

At the recent stage of the Diamond League 2024 in Zurich, Yaroslava won the gold medal (height 1.96) and qualified for the Superfinal. Together with her, her compatriot, the bronze medalist of Paris Irina Gerashchenko, was able to do this. The Superfinal of the Diamond League 2024 will be held in Brussels on September 13-14.
