Oleg only made his debut at the Diamond League stages in August – and had a triumphant finish, battling for gold with the Olympic champion
Ukrainian track and field athlete Oleg Doroshchuk became a silver medalist 2024 Diamond League Finals in high jump.
The athlete made his debut at this level and competed for gold with last year’s champion, South Korean Wu Sang-hyuk, and Italian Gianmarco Tamberi, the Tokyo Olympic champion.
The 23-year-old Ukrainian was just one of three athletes to clear the 2.25 mark. At the next height, a representative from South Korea dropped out of the fight for the gold medal.
Doroshchuk cleared the height of 2.31 on his first attempt, repeating his individual record. But this was not enough to win – Tamberi jumped to 2.34 on his third attempt – a level Oleg never conquered.
Let us recall that the Ukrainian athlete debuted at the stages of the Diamond League only at the end of August. He won bronze twice in a row – first in Silesia, then in Rome. In the latter case, Wu won, and Oleg shared third place with Tamberi.
Let us recall that yesterday in the women’s final of the Diamond League, Ukrainian high jumper Yaroslava Mahuchikh won the gold medal for the third year in a row. Irina Gerashchenko came in third in the same final.
